Clinton's soda fountain in Independence, Missouri

Michael

During our trip to Independence, Missouri to visit our son Donald, we had to catch a few Harry S. Truman sights. Michael had just finished reading the Book "Truman" by David McCullogh. One of our sights after the visitors center was the Soda Fountain where Harry Truman had his first job as a teenager. What yummy food we had, probably the best bread for sandwhiches I have ever eaten!

While Clinton’s Soda Fountain has been in business since 1988, our building on Independence Square dates back to the 1800s.
Over the years, it housed a shoe store, jewelry shop, pharmacy, and soda fountain. Today, the charm and tradition of the old-fashioned soda fountain continues right down to the checkerboard floor. Take a peek at the 100-year-old marble countertop and wooden backdrop that were originally used at another soda fountain in Kansas. Clinton’s serves classic soda phosphates with flavored syrups, ice cream, soups, chilidogs, and other treats for your sweet tooth. Throughout the room, historic photographs depict scenes from yesteryear. Cool off after a promenade around the square and see the location where hardworking Harry got started at his first job before taking on the biggest job in the land.
